This fireplace was in Bud Grant’s old cabin on Forest Lake. The mortar joints
were different colors and did not match and when they vaulted the ceiling the
mortar joints where not finished. We cleaned out the old mortar and tuck pointed
the fireplace. (picture 3)
Old chimney mortar deteriorating from roof up. (picture 8)
Tore chimney down to roof, cleaned brick, and re-laid brick. Tuck pointed
chimney from ground to roof and installed stone crown on chimney. (picture 9)
The owner had this chimney repaired one year before they called me. The
contractor installed a new cement cap, but he didn’t replace broken flue tile in
cap or replace the bad brick in the chimney. (picture 10)
I had to remove new chimney cap, tear down approximately 25 courses of brick,
re-laid new brick, replace broken flue tiles, and I installed a stone crown to
help protect chimney. (picture11)
